The European Agenda for Blue Growth represents a transformation process of the human-ocean-relationship with opportunities and risks to the ocean and cultural identities. Support for the understanding of economic opportunities, cultural challenges, influence by the society and professional skills are needed. We propose to summon economic, technological, institutional and cultural students in a series of workshops for the co-development and online distribution of educational materials.
All activities (including workshops and online platform) will be coordinated in Hamburg, Germany.
Blue growth is based on agreements between the EU, Canada and the US to increase marine uses that have potential for growth but can also impact the lives of coastal communities and the environment. We will develop information on the institutional conditions and ways to influence the transformation.
The project initiates an ongoing process to increase knowledge and awareness of the transformation process of the human-ocean relationship. The target group will be involved in a process of information development and as multipliers. This network continues the work in follow-up projects.
1. Identification of scientists from relevant fields (economy, technology, politics and culture) based on a network of ongoing initiatives related to Blue Growth
2. Compilation of information materials on the challenges of Blue Growth
3. Formulation of preparatory tasks for students of different disciplines
4. Conducting workshops and a meeting to develop transformative educational materials
5. Development of an online platform for the publication of the materials
6. Public relations work
Blue Growth must be shaped by European citizens. The sea is connected in many ways with cultures and traditions. With the concrete challenge of Blue Growth, we want to build a network between various actors to incorporate the consideration of Europe's cultural diversity in economic growth.
The idea targets students and scholars from the fields of technology, economy, governance and cultural studies as participants of a process to develop informational ressources on economic potentials, cultural challenges and civil influence and the development of professional skills for blue growth.
