Activisation of the senior citizens by organizing trips, language and computer skills courses and attend cultural events - in favour of enhancing the participation of the senior citizens in public life while guaranteeing their safety by adapting the above mentioned activitis to their needs, capacities and interests. The activities will be facilitated by young volunteers to bridge generations, initiate trans-generational dialogue and remind of the value senior citizens bring to all societies.
In Poland the senior citizens are often overlooked and passive. They lived in times before united Europe, as the Iron Curtain was still there: when obvious things like traveling or learning foreign languages was not possible. Now, when retired, they finally have time to realize their passions, but it's still difficult to find services adapted to their special needs. It also is the interest of the whole society to help them to participate in social life and stay active as long as possible.
The goals of the project are: long-term activisation of the senior citizens in Wrocław both in physical and psychological aspect; helping the senior citizens to adapt to the digitalized globalized world; education and training - improving communication and concentration skills through language courses; integration of the senior citizens and facilitation of their own growing network of contacts for leisure and self-help; integrating the senior citizens with the youth through common activities.
The project will offer various activities. The trips will allow the seniors to enjoy the attractions: Książ Castle, Duszniki Zdrój (location of the annual Chopin concerts); thematic sightseeing tours in Wrocław. All trips will be adapted to the needs of the participants (duration, pace). A selection of cultural events in the city, which is the European Culture Capital 2016, will be offered. Language courses will help the participants acquire basic skills in English, Spanish, Italian and French. The courses will be prepared by professional language teachers and adapted to the possibilities of the senior participants. Basic computer courses to improve digital literacy will be organized, too. All activities will be facilitated by young volunteers. The project will end with a photo exhibition.
Senior citizens (60 yrs and older) living in Wrocław are our target group. It is important to offer them possibilities of development also in this phase of life. Spending time actively will help them preserve good health and mental condition. Their independence is also important to their families. The senior citizens can share stories and experiences - about the history of their lives and the city. We want the youngest generations to learn their local history directly from the living witnesses.
There are not enough projects focusing on senior needs and entertainment. Secondly, by spending time together its possible to connect the generations and make them learn from each other - especially in the times of rising populism and refugee crisis it is important to listen to the generations that went through the most turbulent times of Europe.
