Idea pitch

We are an open and independent network of European activists pursuing democracy and justice. Our objective is to build a sense of unity and common purpose among Europeans from different regions, cultures, and social backgrounds. We envision a nonviolent civil movement to overcome borders existing between people and states. On the grounds of common values and common identity we reach for the foundation of a federal European Republic.

Where will your idea take place?

European Union

Why does Europe need your idea?

The sense of unity among Europeans has hit a new low. The splitting apart is based on issues of economic inequality, institutional deadlock, and the migration from former colonies. Such issues won’t be solved without cooperation and common solutions in and around Europe. While European democrats miss the common sense of direction needed, violent nationalists are gaining momentum. We need a new ‘can-do’ attitude to find value based and sustainable solutions for the future.

What is your impact?

A paneuropean nonviolent civil movement gets media attention and influences public discourse. To this purpose self-sustainable ‘European Circles’ in major cities are offering a platform to local activists. Our network provides an efficient communication and coordination among the activists. Enough stakeholders support the cause morally and financially. We are organizing a European activist congress and a Union wide Day of Action.

How do you get there?

We work as an open and independent network based upon four fields of action. They are focused on engaging the broad public:
1)Coordination - strategic planning, fundraising, acquisition of knowhow; creation of guidelines on nonviolent action, local organisation and activity; organization of workshops.
2)Content production - videos, interviews, ecards, print materials, articles; translations into different languages; coordination with other content producers.
3)Campaigning - accessibility of information, community building; content sharing through social media and our website, advertisement of viral contents.
4)Community action - ‘European Circles’ dedicated to street performances able to involve uninterested and disaffected people (the first in Berlin), cooperation with local institutions.

What is your story?

Who are you doing it for?

Our focus is to engage with interested individuals and groups and to cooperate with social institutions in order to gain attention for our cause. We pursue a common European public not divided by national and linguistic borders any longer. Since we uphold the teachings history gave us and will give again eventually, we target everybody who fights for democracy, solidarity and the universality of human rights.

What makes your idea stand apart?

We are driven by our European identity and pursue democracy not bound by national chains. We oppose the danger of nationalism in Europe and its inconsistency with further integration. We see democracy and human rights as global issues. We are aware of the potential of digital connection for political 'grassroot' mobilization in Europe. We adopt a holistic approach adequate to the urgency of the current crisis. We envision a civil movement through offline and online activism.
