An Essay Film about how wonderful Europe is! More than that! A declaration of love to the idea of Europe. This is not a documentary! And it is no feature film. Neither is it a political statement. It's an emotional collection of pictures, sound and stories, that are whispering: "I love Europe! And you should love it too“.
Today there are a lot of discussions about the problems in Europe and how to solve them. It sounds simple to say „Europe is a good idea“, but in fact most people don’t know more about it than not having to change currency anymore or show their passport at borders. What is wonderful about Europe that we all experience in our daily live? I want to harden this vivid feeling about european passion, explore reasons to fight for the idea and come close to understand what Europe means for everybody.
I want to remind people that Europe is more than a political discussion or economical compound. A successful outcome would be that there is a sense for the beauty of Europe again. I want to point out that this beauty is at risk if we lose our goal to remain together as Europe.
When the film is finished it is the answer to the question: „Why should we even care about Europe?“. It’s a message that should be seen by a lot of people on television, in cinemas and on festivals.
The film tells the life of a fictive European from birth to death. In his childhood he first learns about Europe. He grows up and experiences the continent in his mundane life, in small encounters and images that let him to understand more and more about the idea of Europe. We follow him into a possible future, an utopian Europe. His life is told in an associative way composed of universal and emotional events. This makes the story personal, everybody associates from his own memory and emotions.
The Film is for all the Europeans that have forgotten why Europe exists. For all the people who need a motivation to go on and stand up for Europe.
I want to screen the film on television and in cinemas so everybody is able to see it. There is no special target group, there is no restricted audience. Everyone should watch it.
This film is not going to be an ordinary documentary telling dates or historical details. Neither a discussion about political or social issues. It is an Essay Film, a creative and artful collection of stories and images, designed to be emotional and to stimulate the imagination of the audience. There will be no precise definition of what Europe is. Instead a summary of emotions and memories that sketch what Europe should be: A passion, a lifestyle, an idea, something wonderful!
