How does Europe look like from the perspective of those who were failed by promises of education? And how instead of failing they are reinventing Europe as we know it?
Project will contribute restructuring our thinking of how knowledge is been produced in Europe after the crisis. Enlightened knowledge has mainly been associated with formal institutions. During the last decade, this circumstance has suffered a transformation and new ways of knowledge, based on individuals that are spread in a chaosmotic way all around Europe, have emerged or expanded. These new ways are often outside the radar of policy makers and academic institutions. In many of these individual practices new Europe from below is being invented and it needs to be acknowledged, politicized, and structurally supported. Our online network platform and documentary will give visibility to these dynamics and will help in giving collective expression and agency.
Through a documentary, our project aims to bring into policy-makers’ awareness how the economic crisis has changed the concept of knowledge in Europe, as well as how knowledge producers are moving around spreading their experience in non-institutional ways. At the same time, by establishing a pilot platform, we will strengthen the role of these knowledge producers, will create a space to recognize their crucial role and we will try to increase their possibilities to keep on producing and sharing knowledge. Through this effort, ex-academics and ex-PhD students, who had to leave their universities or lost their grants, would be able to know about each other’s knowledge, start new intellectual and vital relations and share their skills.
We will do research on the topic and search for 10 - 15 knowledge producers that have been affected by the recent changes. We will collect materials (bibliography, statistical information, etc), have face-to-face meetings and interviews with the representatives from academic circles (ones that have a decision power) and individual knowledge producers by travelling around Europe. By doing this, we will build the database. Furthermore, we will create a pilot online platform and network where we will combine the found information and connect the individual knowledge producers by using the critical mapping method and personal videos done by the selected knowledge producers. The final action will be to have critical analysis and representation of the results in a form of the documentary.
