ESOP is an empowerment exchange program for EU interns and migrants. It provides a platform to support and manage mutual dialogue for an appreciative living together. The program’s formative part, completed by the experimental lab, enables them to develop and realise innovative ways of shaping social cohesion and dialogue within the host community. The ESOP experience is replicative and supports the former participants in assuming the role of changemakers in their cities Europe-wide.
The ESOP program takes place in Bologna, Italy and Witten, Germany.
ESOP brings together migrants and young Europeans to work in a peer-to-peer approach on the promotion of social cohesion. It assigns an active role to migrants in its shaping and sensitizes for the need to dialogue between all citizens and active listening to strengthen democracy and participation.
There will be a group of young changemakers trained to promote social cohesion and participation in Bologna and Europe-wide who are aware of their potential to impact.
They will form a European network that facilitates exchange, joint activities and the transfer of local projects to new cities.
All activities are characterized by a peer-to-peer approach and needs analysis. Duration of one cycle are 4 months.
What we do:
- common and separate trainings of the migrant and EU interns (language classes, EU legal framework, active (EU) citizenship, project development, empowerment strategies)
- Ideas lab to develop solutions for social cohesion
- realization of mini projects in Bologna
- launch of an exchange network to manage future (common) promoting participation and cohesion
ESOP involves those concerned by social cohesion but who are rarely involved in shaping it and trains young Europeans to dialogue. We believe, that true social cohesion will determine Europe’s future and only a trained young generation, with all its different members, can give the necessary answers.
Beneficiaries are migrants, who by their legal status and often socially, too, are excluded from political participation and young Europeans, often unprepared for this task. European citizens, first in Bologna and gradually Europe-wide, will benefit from ESOP, too, and get more involved.
We are grateful for any kind of feedback. Particularly interesting for us is feedback on the objectives, implementation and contents of the program, on the approach chosen and the project's sustainability.
