Zajedno zajedno / Together Together
Psychiatric disorders are not contagious, but majority of population is avoiding persons with mental health problems. How often we hear expressions such as “public support”, “providing backing”, “acceptance” for other (organic) problems, a how often for those that are not caused by psychic problems?
The culture of neglecting and alienating of persons with mental disorders is not strange to much more developed European societies. In some member state, it is still the predominant one, ignored by policy creators and public. If we start sending appropriate messages to employers, families, neighbors… we can change the common image even of the heaviest psychotic disorders. Consequently, the exploration of additional, new approaches in solving this problem is beneficial in every country that has a genuine interest for its vulnerable parts of population and the overall development. Designing the successful mode for treating this problem is a prerequisite for its further transmission to others. Our idea is practically transferable to every entity: state institution, CSO, etc.
Our goal may be formally defined as: Active engagement of different publics, non-medical subjects, media, universities, CSOs in anti-stigma campaign and direct support for the people with mental health problems. Greatest achievement a year from launching the project would be: significant positive change in public perception of people with experience of mental and emotional distress, continuous action by a wide range of partners (state institutions, media, CSOs, universities, experts, etc.) in destigmatization and increased social inclusion of “psychiatric survivors”. Consequently, our direct beneficiaries would verify noticeable improvement in quality of their lives – in school, workplace, before state institutions/services, local community...
- We will join forces in the national campaign with different publics that so far worked separately on related issues and merge our resources in implementation of multi-disciplinary approach to the subject matter;
- We will conduct a wide range of workshops, mobilizing as many individuals and organizations wishing to engage in their respective fields and/or volunteer in the projected public actions within campaign;
- We will create an expert, innovative approach in solving a delicate problem such as massive stigmatization of people with mental health problems, which may serve as a model for other interested parties;
- We will provide the opportunity for young people – students to be directly involved in the project, thus creating a strong base for sustainable and procreative initiative.
