The Western Balkans is still unrest region, and as such is not a region where real European values live. The territory covered by the project is on its way to European Union and therefore the minority issue must be resolved. It is important to involve youth, as the future ambassadors of this intercultural and multi-religious region, into promotion of tolerance, coexistence and mobility, because this region is perceived by the public as a region of extremism, nationalism and everything against which Europe struggle.
The idea is that young people in these talks initiate the creation of compatible minority youth policies in the region. In addition, young people will meet with representatives of major youth organizations and organizations that work with young people, in order to form regional youth intercultural network. The basis for the future network will consist of already established intercultural minority youth network in Serbia, which was formed by Urban-In within the project supported by the EU Delegation in Belgrade. With this project, we plan to expand the existing youth network to regional level.
We believe that is of extreme importance that open-minded youth with different ethnic background work together on decreasing prejudices and ethnic distance between nations which live in the Balkans.
The project will be realized in Serbia, Kosovo and BiH. The main activities are: Workshops on interculturality; Study visits to Belgrade, Sarajevo and Prishtina.
The aim of the Workshops is that youth acquire basic knowledge about the concept of interculturality, different identities and benefits that come with life in intercultural communities.Study visits will start the communication between young Albanians, Bosnians and Serbs, and representatives of state institutions. Representatives of institutions will hear directly from young how youth of different ethnic background live in Serbia; which challenges and problems they face; what their needs are and what their potentials, capacities, knowledge and skills are. Youth will initiate an idea of creating regional intercultural youth network.
