Youth Association for Peace (YAP)
In the past years we made the Laureates’ enthusiasm and their first-hand experience available to young people. We now further aim at making the Summit a catalyst for European youth activism: In the wake of the summit, YAP will create a peace innovation lab for young Europeans to jointly develop peace initiatives, training their skills in peace education and providing them with tools how to translate their ideas into impactful and sustainable action.
As an international network, YAP meets annually in European cities and collaborates online.
YAP will offer a skills training and hold a peace innovation lab for its European youth delegation at the next Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates on the topic “Democracy, participation, social cohesion and peace: Roads to implementing your ideas for peaceful and democratic European communities”.
YAP will enable young Europeans from disadvantaged financial backgrounds to attend the Summits, offering them trainings in peace education and project planning. A year from now, these delegates will have kicked off their own projects and become an active part of our network.
Prior to the annual summits, YAP issues a call for applications on Facebook. The YAP board will select the participants with regard to personal motivation, qualification, and with an eye on ensuring an equitable geographical distribution and high internal diversity of the group. YAP will prepare its delegation first via mail, and then, at the summit location, in a four hour workshop and through the Peace Innovations Lab. Afterwards, YAP will organize own events and connect its members online.
The engaging talks and inspiring actions of the Nobel Peace Laureates taught us that the smallest action can be essential for the promotion of peace and justice. As young Europeans, we find it particularly important to sensitize our peers for the significance of joint action for a peaceful Europe.
We will support and train youths from regions and backgrounds who neither have the resources to take part in this event nor knowledge about it. We will reach out to youths interested in democracy promotion, sustainable community building, and inclusion to reach many potential future change makers.
It would be great to receive advice on how to broaden the scope of our organization. Additionally, we welcome all kinds of feedback regarding how to make use of the inspiration and network gathered through the participation at the summit in the most effective way.
