People with disabilities often are viewed upon as passive and receiving from society. This view disregards that they are much more than their conditions but people with stories, interests and knowledge. In a world without restriction they can fulfil their potential and contribute to society.
Belarus is a part of Europe but its young people live isolated from it. Young people with disabilities are the most vulnerable members of society and don’t have the possibility to live an active life or get in touch with people from other countries. They have little possibility for self-realisation.
The uniqueness of our project lies in us stepping out of the standard thinking about disability. We will widen the understanding of people with disabilities. We will give them the chance to speak about their problems themselves and above that not only solve these but to open themselves towards problems that are important for society.
Our idea could be transferred to other former Soviet Union countries where the situation of people with disabilities is similar to Belarus.
As a result of the project the young people will be carriers and active spreaders of new principles and ideas about the relationship between people without negative stereotypes, spreading them in the Belarusian society and helping to create a positive equal attitude to people with disabilities.
At the end of the project there will be an inclusive support group for young people who in its work will use non-formal education to raise awareness of youth issues, as well as using new creative ideas and ways of presenting information about people with disabilities with humour and self-irony.
The participants of the project will create a film about the process of creating self-help group to document ideas but also difficulties. This will allow the group to share their experiences.
-Four educational seminars: The program will focus on the formation and understanding of democratic values to motivate participants to take an active part in their communities. We plan to make an analysis about the problems of youth in their community and to look for effective ways to solve them.
-Study visit to Germany: There they will receive the informational and emotional basis for a new outlook which will help them to create new ideas and ways for presenting information to attract the attention of society towards youth problems.
-The group will organise own activities in which they can explore being active.
-The group will get the opportunity to take part in organising and conducting the tent camp “Round Lake".
-The group will report on social media like the online journal "Moloko".
