With WorldPictures, mumok holds art workshops open to the public, offering people with/without migration background a creative space for encounter and exchange. Everyone who wishes to be a part is welcome, it is also possible to appear on a regular basis. In three-hour workshops participants will get to know each other and take a visit to a current mumok exhibition. They find inspiration and afterwards work together in our studio. Often, they do not even need many words to come closer.

Human beings will meet each other and learn about individual life stories, even on a non-verbal basis and get to know to people through the medium of art. They may learn to accept and appreciate the different world views. This leads to pick-up courage and support other people in need for help.
This project boosts self-empowerment and helps to create new ideas and point of views. Participants will get support to overcome common stereotypes and strenghten their empathy through exchange and artistic hands-on activities in the studio.
In this case, personal gain is more important than integrating the strange, the unknown into a current system. Museums are often perceived as high threshold institutions. WorldPictures opens up to people with completely different backgrounds using (non-verbal) communicaton and the offer to work together and spend some time in a special and mind-opening surrouding.
The supportive spirit of summer 2015, when fugitives were welcomed open-hearted with the Train of Hope movement in Austria, is more than ever important to people who fled their countries, offering them a time frame with locals, getting appreciation and leaving the daily routine aside.
We offer this formate for everybody - people with different and diverse backgrounds - and welcome them (on a regular basis) to deepen the experience.
