WeConnect enables refugees and locals to share social activities and experiences with each other by providing a barrier-free online-platform which makes meet ups in real life super easy.
WeConnet is an online tool which makes it easier for refugees and locals to connect and share social experiences in Berlin. The idea as well as the software will be open source, so that other cities can replicate our model to work with it. Especially in the socially and economically tough times which Europe faces today, it is important that people are not turned against each other because of cultural or ethnical differences. The tool we offer should help to move the idea of a united and tolarent Europe forward – a Europe that welcomes people in need and includes them into society.
In one year, refugees will know about WeConnect shortly after they arrive in refugee camps, due to handouts, brochures and volunteers mentioning and promoting our platform. Refugees will independently search and offer activities in Berlin through our platform, to get in touch with locals, and vice versa. Until then, plenty of social interactions between refugees and locals will have taken place, barriers between asylum-seekers and locals will be reduced and a more inclusive society for refugees will be established.
1. Ongoing research of refugee-related initiatives, activities and organisations in Berlin
2. Include gathered activities into our online platform (categorized and location based)
3. Get in touch with emergency shelters and refugee camps to introduce WeConnect to refugees and other stakeholders 4. Create monthly events within the 4 categories with refugees, locals and organizations registered at our platform (for example a food market, soccerplay, jamsession or knitting course)
5. Document our monthly events by uploading photos and videos on our website and attract more people to participate and use our platform.
