Drip by Drip wants to establish the world's first water offset for the fashion industry comparable to carbon offsets in the transportation sector. Water pollution and unequal distribution are increasingly jeopardizing the lives of millions of people working in the cotton and fashion industry. We want to change that by convincing European fashion brands and customers to compensate those who lack access to clean water by paying a little extra to fund water projects in fashion producing countries.
Berlin, Germany and preferably also other cities in Europe.
So far not enough action has been taken by our institutions to tackle worldwide water imbalances that are fueled by the fashion industry. Imbalances that concern and affect all of us. That's why we want to take the stage by forming a grassroots movement in Europe that informs and takes action.
We hope to have informed a large percentage of fashion consumers all over Europe about linkages between fast fashion, water challenges in other parts of the world and the refugee crisis. Secondly, we want to have convinced 100 fashion brands in Europe to adopt our water offset and engage in projects
We will operate based on three pillars: information - engagement - action. To inform we are putting together a digital Water Playbook showing linkages between water and fashion. Also we will host a Water Festival on World Water Day. To engage we will form a network of brands, consumers and associations to collectively push the topic and solutions for it. To take action we are creating the first official water offset & seal that will fund water & sanitation projects around the globe.
All of us have been part of the system by consuming fast fashion items. The movie "The True Cost" and a trip to Bangladesh in September 2017 made us aware of the real costs of the garments motivating us to start by changing our own behavior. Now we want to motivate others and to form a movement.
For all of us. Europe imports a large share of the textile-bound water from Asia/Africa hence has a direct impact on people’s living conditions there. As Europeans we stand together on many important topics. We want the global water imbalance to be the next one to unite and empower us.
We highly appreciate any comments, feedback and critical questions concerning our concept. We are still in the developmental process of our idea and therefore welcome any sort of advice on how to make this a truly European initiative that reaches as many people as possible to make a real impact.
