A cafe and social center promoting ethical treatment of animals, veganism, care about environment and wildlife, healthy lifestyle, human rights and equality principles using nonformal education (lectures, workshops, movie screenings etc.), handouts (leaflets, CDs etc.) and food.
Veganism is the most fast developing and increasing in number of adherents philosophy of out age with some European countries (Germany, UK, Italy) being on the frontline of this process. Veganism is directly connected with the care about environment and solving many social problems including the problem of world hunger and the costs of public health services. As far as we all share the same planet and its resources it looks logical to support positive initiatives throughout the world especially taking into account the plans of European Union about the integration of Georgia in EU. Moreover there is a lack of places in Georgia where people can meet, discuss, attend to free activities, workshops, lectures etc. There is a need to create cruelty-free space which would connect people.
A successful outcome of the project would be a café/social center to reach a break-even point and continue functioning providing Georgian vegan movement with opportunities, resources and a place of meetings, communication and events. In future it is planned to reach the stage when it will be possible to open similar centers in other cities and regions of Georgia (Batumi, Kutaisi, Rustavi, Zugdidi). At the same time Vegan Georgia plans to arrange different kind of massive social and sport events, such as marathon against smoking in Tbilisi on 31 May (World No Tobacco Day). The final goal of Vegan Georgia activities is a highest possible expansion of vegan lifestyle and antispeciesist ethics.
-- Serving healthy and tasty food for reasonable prices
-- Organizing interesting and useful events in the cafe (lectures, screenings, workshops etc.) for free
-- Spreading the info about the first vegan cafe in Georgia by leafleting and postering around the city and relying on the huge amounts of people who tend to hold on to fasting days
-- Organizing social and sport outdoor activities including massive ones and thus promoting vegan center as well
-- Including the data about vegan cafe into all guides on Tbilisi and travellers' handbooks relying on tourists from Europe and America
Funding requested from Advocate Europe
We would really appreciate if anyone could advice us other sources of funding except for "Advocate Europe", as far as we have plenty ideas and plans, but financial part of it is our weak side for now.
