HORIZONT3000 (TRIALOG Project)
Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the Western Balkans prepare for their role as change agents for a more just and sustainable world.
Albania, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia
Europe needs a strong civil society, also in candidate countries, to work together on enabling global citizenship. This project will contribute to bringing WB and EU civil society working on development closer together. CSOs from the WB, especially form countries on the way to EU accession, will be introduced to the EU development cooperation landscape and familiarised with EU development policy processes. This will contribute to a better understanding of the European Union. A special focus of the project will be given to improve conditions for civil and democratic participation at both national and Union level. This will be addressed through strengthening CSOs to engage in a political dialogue at national and EU level, especially in the context of the EU enlargement process.
CSOs and stakeholders active or interested in development education and global development have been mapped in Albania, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia and have participated in networking and capacity building activities of the project. They have enhanced their knowledge in development education and development cooperation and started to conduct awareness raising on global development. Further WB organisations were trained on advocacy for global development and started a policy dialogue. Representatives of Western Balkan CSOs have started to attend working group meetings of the European NGO confederation CONCORD to represent a WB perspective at EU level. WB CSOs active or interested in international development coordinate among each other and have started a platform building process.
The project will be carried out by a consortium of non-profit organisations from EU and WB . The consortium partners will form a steering group which will meet regularly to discuss the project progress. Additionally an international project coordinator will support the regional and local coordinators in each country to ensure the smooth implementation of the activities and a continuous flow of information between all partners. The international coordinator will be responsible for the overall coordination of the project and organise international activities such as annual partner strategy meetings and the study visit to an EU country. Regional and local capacity building activities will be organised by regional and local coordinators supported by external experts, especially from EU13.
