eLabEurope, a civic start up lobbying in the public interest, presents TheGoodLobby. Imagine a world where academics and professionals team up with NGOs to improve people’s lives. And there is more: imagine they do it for free. That is the world TheGoodLobby is trying to unleash.
Bilbao, Spain, Paris, France, Florence, Italy
We live in a world where Professor Max, an expert on many things, writes books that few people read. Lawyer, Nina, and communications expert Ola only work for private sector clients. Meanwhile, NGO activist, Joao, who works on the same topic as Professor Max, has never heard of his work and cannot afford to pay for Nina or Ola (but he could really use their help). The TheGoodLobby’s strength is to be found in its bottom-up, network approach. We believe in a world where EU citizens like Nina, Ola, Joao and Max work together for a more democratic Europe. To fight declining citizen participation and provide a louder voice to civil society, we connect people with knowledge to people who need it. TheGoodLobby model of networked lobbying for good can be replicated all across Europe.
TheGoodLobby aims at enhancing civic participation in Europe. At the end of the project we expect: 1. Civil society organizations to receive professional advice for free in the framework of their advocacy work 2. Academics to effectively turn their research to the benefit of society 3. Young professionals to succeed in serving the whole society (and not only some interests) 4. Students to develop a first-hand experience of EU advocacy work as well as the necessary skills to become advocates for the public interest 5. European citizens to become informed about the operation of the EU and empowered by the MOOC in their interactions with policymakers In 18 months thanks to TheGoodLobby and its activities European society will be more interconnected, informed, empowered and engaged.
TheGoodLobby will carry out 5 major activities over 18 months: 1.TheGoodNetwork - expanding eLabEurope’s existing network of (over 60) lawyers, professionals and academics lobbying for good 2.TheGoodAdvice - providing free advice to civil society organisations (min 20) across diverse disciplines, including law, policy, digital, social research and communications 3.TheGoodTraining - training students (min 25) to become public interest advocates by teaching them both soft and hard skills 4.TheGoodEducation - building upon the success of the 2014 MOOC ‘Understanding Europe’ to develop and run a new MOOC on “lobbying for good” (min 50000 students) aimed at empowering citizens and promoting civic participation 5.Promoting all activities through TheGoodCampaign to attract like-minded partners

We are well aware that TheGoodLobby project has room for improvement. For this reason we are extremely interested in your opinions and questions. We also would appreciate suggestions on which existing networks and organisations might enable us to reach out to our target groups.
