Idea pitch

With a European alphabet we want to facilitate the online communication between young people in Europe. No language barriers, more creativity - for a better connected Europe!

Why does Europe need your idea?

Although communicating with people all over Europe is easier today than ever, people, especially youngsters without multiple language skills, are largely excluded from intercultural exchange. The language barrier is often enough too hard to overcome and is separating them. In Europe, it is a real obstacle for creating a European public space both in physical and virtual communication. This is why Europe needs „Speechless in Europe“, an innovative idea to create non-verbal communication that can be expanded and used for any sort of project or sector where the language barrier is an obstacle for communication.

What is your impact?

Our vision is to develop a new form of digital communication, similar to a non-verbal alphabet that can be used for any sort of website. We believe that there is a form of communication beyond Google Translate that we just need to explore. With this project, we can develop a cornerstone for this new form of communication that later can be used by all different sorts of organisations and sectors that should be available for a European society. Our goal is to have a nonverbal website for the Speechless in Europe project by spring 2016 as the first prototype for this new form a communication. We believe that this new form will not only facilitate connection but also permit a more creative way of wording and phrasing for the young „readers“.

How do you get there?

Speechless in Europe offers a great frame for the realization of this project. Together with our partners and our visualization experts, we will research, test and create this non-verbal website. The actual testing with the target group will be a continuous step within the project, since we have to find out, how symbols and signs are understood in different cultural environments and how a non-verbal communication can be created so that all different kind of people understand it. With the project website for Speechless we will develop a prototype and some kind of alphabet or „language“ that later can be used and expanded by other European endeavours.
