Untold stories from Moldova
Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, Tiraspol/"Transdniestria"", Comrat, Gagauzia
Unfortunately, Moldovans often confuse Europe with the EU (“economic wealth and prosperity”), where a lot of Moldovans work as gastarbeiter. Being geographically inbetween Ukraine & Romania, Moldova struggles for interest in its country that isn´t linked to the crisis in Ukraine, the Transdniestria-conflict, the separatist ideas of the Gagauzians, & corruption. The elections in 2014 showed a head to head run of the pro-European & socialist parties: Moldova´s society is divided. We want to show that we are part of Europe. European values such as media freedom, human right & gender equality will be processed through out the articles from a Moldovan perspective. Transferring the idea on a cross border scale is a future goal (e.g. Ukraine/Romania).
According to the research of the Moldova`s print media market we undertook, there are no magazines focused on social and cultural issues. There are no print products at all which would be accessible in different spoken languages of the country. There is no qualitative media platform where the young professionals could express themselves and be trained on the topics of social-cultural journalism. Thus the NOUA magazine`s initiative can become a unique media project for Moldova and if our proposal is selected the situation of the media market of Moldova could be totally changed. The beneficiaries of our idea: young people who will participate as the contributors, but also the readers. Trying to write independently is our biggest goal.
We have been already working of the first issue of “NOUA: Stories from Moldova” which was produced in the framework of the project “Publish Yourself! Making a Magazine in Chisinau” realized and financed by the means of the AA and the DAAD. We were trained and now it is on us to train the future generations on independent publishing. We will organize workshops for young Moldovan media professionals, artists on how to produce an independent, creative media product on social and cultural issues. The workshop will last 1-19 June. During the period 20-26 of June we will proofread the articles. The last week of June will be dedicated to printing process. We plan to distribute the magazines personally mid of July.
