Rabenhaus e.V. - Das Nachbarschaftshaus in Berlin-Köpenick
We aim to collaborate with neighborhood associations to bring people from different communities into discussions. Therefore we will collaborate with 6 to 10 neighborhood associations per city.
We take a ride through our city and find ourselves prejudiced towards fellow citizens. In times of uncertainty and change, fear and mistrust rise and we tend to focus more on our differences than our shared interests. To enhance social cohesion we propose to develop a local TV broadcast created by citizens for citizens: The Bridge. It aims at engaging members of diverse communities as “positive peace actors” who can approach each other, challenge prejudices and explore shared social interests.
The project can be perfectly applicable to many other cities in Europe and beyond.
Promoting dialogue between different actors of the civil society and encourage them to be positive peace makers is advocating for democracy and coexistence. Fighting against discriminating discourses and making it accessible to everyone is key to progress
The broadcast has brought different communities into a common space in which people have dared to question delicate current issues and challenged their prejudices. Spectators of the broadcast have gotten insights into the reality of fellow citizens and feel inspired to go beyond their comfort zone.
Journalism will be the tool to explore the unknown and unfamiliar. It will allow the interaction with citizens with different traditions, ideologies and religions. Placing a person in the skin of a journalist, will allow him/her to approach the other as a positive experience and ask, discuss, hear and express current issues that would not be possible to do in their daily life. A training in video-journalism, and awareness sessions about social divisions will lead to the creation of The Bridge TV
Through my experience in several cities and by working on a project about former divided cities, I have learned that there are still many non-physical divisions. I aspire to contribute to create dialogue bridges since using a “them”-“us” discourse can lead to deepen future conflicts and foster fear
Neighborhood associations and refugee and migrant centers from different districts of Berlin. Indirect beneficiaries are the networks of youth and adults active in these associations that will spread the actions through the TV broadcast and serve as an example to other communities around Europe
Contacts to associations from the Ruhr area will be helpful. In a further stage, connections to associations in other participating countries to expand the project to their region. Advice of how reaching the widest possible audience by using social media would also be very welcome.
