Teach For Serbia
We want to create a leadership force of promising young teachers that will develop better and easier accessible education for the children in rural parts of Serbia - today and tomorrow.
Eastern Serbia, Šumadija
Serbia is faced with many problems that need to be addressed during the process of getting closer to Europe and to become a country member of European Union. Referring to the Millennium Development Goals, National Strategy for Development in Education as well as the National Youth Strategy in the Republic of Serbia, problem of rural school calls for action. In our environment this would be one totally new approach which could change the whole picture of rural schools and rural areas. Actually, we completely change the concept. By time, rural schools, which were unpopular, is becoming new workplace chosen by the best professionals. Also this concept has already been applied in countries wide world and it works. Now we are ready to accept and implement this project in Serbia as well.
Teach for Serbia is aiming to reach two highly related objectives. While teachers are provided with additional practical training and later appointed to rural schools, pupils from those areas benefit by getting new young enthusiastic teachers eager to dedicate their time and to motivate children to achieve higher success in future life. Specific goal related to children is oriented to significant decline in the drop-out rate from rural school which is too high in Serbia and to initiate a significant growth rate of the students entering high schools. After the period of two years, the alumni of our program would form a network and be ready to take the responsibilities for restoring the reputation of the teaching profession and raising awareness about the importance of education.
• Selection process:
Based on the applications for this project, our Board will select the best candidates who are most suitable for teaching positions.
Training in the form of a Summer Academy would be organized. Teachers will be trained with the well-known methodical approach related to the adjustment to children with various expectations and learning barriers, with special regards to the rural area.
To those who successfully completed the Summer Academy Program, Teach for Serbia offer an ensured work position in rural area schools
• Sustainability – Alumni network:
After two years of service in schools, the teachers will be encouraged to spread the message about the importance of education to other parts of society (Science, Business, NGO).
