ARCADIA The Romanian Association for International Cooperation and Development
Take the lead! Create OUR future will engage 40 young Europeans as agents of social change who have the vision, know-how, commitment and network to act toward breaking the chain of prejudice and disengagement, with a view to build stronger social cohesion between Eastern and Western Europe.
Cluj-Napoca, Romania, Bochum, Germany
First, our project addresses a perceived disempowerment that young people in Europe are now facing. We believe leadership skills, developed within a solid social network of innovators devoted to social change can foster sustainable social participation of young Europeans.
Besides, Europe needs to build a better capacity to handle the split between its diverse members from East and West, to decrease existing trends of social exclusion, hate speech and extremism.
Finally, our transdisciplinary approach has the potential to breed social innovation. By giving young people the opportunity to use their skills to create transnational, interdisciplinary initiatives of their own, new social products can emerge to benefit society by consolidating a network that can critically address our problems.
We aim to empower the 40 beneficiaries to lead the way towards stronger cohesion between Eastern and Western Europe. As an outcome, we expect to see positive action to reduce mistrust, prejudice and marginalization in participating countries. Our beneficiaries will be encouraged to develop transnational initiatives of their own. Building on their creative potential, as a result of the project participants will also deliver engaging interdisciplinary products (e.g multimedia, performance, games) aimed at spreading awareness among their peers. A year from now, the community built throughout our project will provide an example of a cohesive network of young Europeans.
The beneficiaries of our project will be able to state that we are now equipped to act against prejudice and disengagement.
During August-September 2015, we will consolidate a community of young Europeans and select 40 beneficiaries who will participate in our boot camps organized in Romania- October 2015 and Germany- March 2016, each with 20 participants. They will develop their leadership skills to tackle social cohesion and its counterparts: prejudice and marginalization. Boot camps will offer a knowledge base and co-create a space for peer to peer learning. Next, 10 transnational initiatives will be created, receiving grants of €400 each and 3 months of online mentoring to ensure their progress.
Results will include 3 multimedia products and one public performance, aimed at challenging existing myths and social practices threatening to disengage young Europeans. Overall, we aim to reach 1400 Europeans.

It would be great to receive more suggestions of other networks, platforms or stakeholders who could engage in our idea, to enrich the experience of our beneficiaries even more!
