Idea Sketch

Idea pitch

Sur l´eau treats the topics of public accessibility of water, ways of using water space in a city and thus water as public space: by working on developing, programming and designing a public quay and access to the water at Kraftwerk Bille in Hamburg by means of artistic programmations. Sur l´eau will take place in the summer of 2018 at the quay wall of Kraftwerk Bille along with the cultural association VGV, the performance group geheimagentur and french architecture collective Yes We Camp.

Where will your idea take place?

Old power plant "Kraftwerk Bille" in Hammerbrook, Hamburg, Germany.

Why does Europe need your idea?

The aim of the project "Sur l'eau" is to bring parts of the private spaces and areas back into public use, to activate them for the public. Being on and at the water is the ideal condition of this confrontation - water as public space (participative space development).

What is your impact?

Long term public access to the water and opening up a discussion on the lack of open space in many cities.

How do you get there?

The project consists of several exchanges: to exchange views and knowledge on water use and floating structures and a visit to Marseille by a team of Hallo Festspiele and geheimagentur in 2018, to be on site and to exchange ideas about the local projects and current ideas. Finally, in both cities there will be public events to introduce the content of the exchange and the topic of water use in cities to other people.

What is your story?

As in many cities in the western world, access to water is increasingly monopolized and taken away from the residents' access. Therefore one of our main concerns is to address the question of lack of public spaces by taking action in experimental ways of space-development.

Who are you doing it for?

The public as well as the participating groups; creating a real public space, but also expanding the network of artists, performers, scientists working on the topic of water as a public space.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

Objective feedback and constructive comments are very welcome, ideas and contacts to people dealing with access to water or/and spatial development that tries new or alternative ways.....
