CHAMPIONS without BORDERS e.V.
Meanwhile football clubs lack coaches, many refugees have the time and interest in taking over that responsibility. Still there are many barriers that prevent both sides from getting together. Therefore our objective is to get rid of these barriers by qualifying refugees according to their current needs, convey them to clubs and accompany both sides in the process to create a win-win-situation. Our target group are refugees from the age of 16, either female or male.
Football clubs are images of our democratic society and offer a social structure that is quite open. With refugees entering these structures and building tandems on eye level with experienced coaches, all sides learn from each other, widen their social horizon and reduce their prejudices.
We hope to have created 20-30 tandems by then and that our support for either refugees or clubs is no longer needed. This would mean the new coaches have been integrated into the social structures, have been empowered and are role-models, especially to children and other refugees.
We will offer a workshop which provides the basics (sensibilisation, empowering) and avoids barriers by having facilitators and interpreters present. Afterwards new coaches are conveyed to interested clubs, make up tandems with experienced coaches and receive material and a small compensation for their work from us. Furthermore both sides will receive mentoring on a personal basis during first season and we will offer more specific workshops (e.g. first aid, intercultural conflict management).
For all of us football has played a mayor role in our lifes and means much more to us than just to play. Through the sport we have empowered ourselves and learned to live up to important values. We understand it as a tool which should be as open as possible to refugees.
Refugees are our main target group and are integrated as stakeholders from the beginning. Other stakeholders are the clubs and their coaches plus the local football and sports associations. Other beneficiaries besides them are the children in the clubs who will then be trained by the new coaches.
We are interested in detailed feedback, especially concerning methods and working on eye level, but also how to spread our idea to the international level.
