Idea Sketch

Idea pitch

In this cross border reportage project the reporters of Amal, Berlin! are going to visit their relatives, who are scattered all over Europe. They´ll write about their daily lives and give very personal insights into the differing conditions for refugees in the various European countries. And they will show, how refugees family-networks create new bonds in Europe. The stories will be published in Social Media networks in all countries involved.

Where will your idea take place?

Cities and places all over Europe, as well as the social media networks of all people involved.

Why does Europe need your idea?

Europe has become a safe haven for many – the project shows the personal impact of this development, despite alle differences in migration and asylum politics. It creates a network between scattered families with similar stories.

What is your impact?

A series of publications stimulates a high degree of attention for the topic of cross border families within Europe. Now, most refugees experience this as individual fate. The project creates awareness for the fact, that it is a structural phenomenon. And it might start a debate on how to solve it.

How do you get there?

* Research and visit the family members & the organisations, that support them.
* Mobilize media partners
* Record, film and take pictures of their daily lives.
* Write, edit, present their stories.
* Publish on social media channels of all involved.
* Stimulate a debate around the topic online & offline.
* If possible, present the outcome in a book.

What is your story?

The reporters of Amal, Berlin! are working together since September 2016. All have relatives in other European countries. They have been visiting, but cannot reunite. They tell each other about their lives. Now we want to do so in public.

Who are you doing it for?

The large group of refugees, who share the fate that their families are torn apart in different countries. And the even larger group of people, who want to know what it is like to be in exile.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

Please, if you know people who have a story to tell about living as a family scattered all over Europe, let us know.
