Idea pitch

Learning from Ecovillage Solutions to Address European Poverty and Design Future Sustainable Communities

Where will your idea take place?

Skopje, Macedonia, Sofia, Bulgaria

Why does Europe need your idea?

Europe lacks a clear policy to meet Romani people where they are. The policy has been integration through assimilation which has continuously been resisted and failed. The Romani people are proud of their rich culture which they have maintained in Europe for eight centuries. A Europe of diversity has room for Romani dreams which this project hopes to document. The inability to find a harmonious means of cohabitation between dominant and Romani cultures extends to all countries of Europe. The ideas hatched by this project will be on offer to all countries of Europe.

What is your impact?

The project would cause us to find practical ways to use existing ecovillage methods and technologies to help people in need. We would certainly be able to deliver practical knowledge of functioning solutions to improve the lives of a number of families in underprivledged neighbourhoods of the participants. The youth selected would both be offering new innovations to help the community but as well asking questions about the culture, traditions and dreams of the people. A clear report or project proposal for a model village would be the successful result of this project. I hope the main difference that both the innovations and the report would make is a feeling in the effected communities that we respect each other and we are trying to find a better solution to today's poverty together.

How do you get there?

Month 0-5: Networking via internet to find and select 25 motivated participants between 18-30 years with sufficient English skills. Appropriate course instructors identified. Curriculum adapted.

Month 6-8: Invitations, visas, travel arrangements organised for participants and instructors. Course venue and accomodations booked.

Month 9: Four-week residential course on ecological, social, economic and cultural aspects interwoven with personal coaching. Visioning projects developed by participants. Pilot improvements made in venue neighbourhood. Presentations of visions showcased.

Month 10-18: Network established online with regular meetings. Vision document developed. Project proposals developed. Network decides its future form before project end.
