European Women's Lobby
Our idea is simple: give young, diverse feminist activists the opportunity to mentor established traditional social movement leaders from different social movements, sharing with them new transformative energy and tactics for change.
Democracy in Europe is under threat and young feminist activists are leading the resistance, while long-standing, traditional social movements and groups have fallen prey to infighting, competition, and stale leadership. It's time for new thinking and new voices!
Meetings in up to 31 countries and online.
Politics, economics and the shaping of democracy in Europe have been led by traditional actors (older white males) for decades. What if young, diverse women took the stage? Young feminists are an untapped resource for resistance tactics, because young women have always had the most to lose.
A year from now, traditional social movements leaders from established social movements (environment, development, youth, LGBT) will have incorporated new feminist resistance tactics they learned from their mentors. Movements will be more united, inclusive and successful in protecting democracy.
We will use this funding to set up a first of its kind reverse-mentoring programme that pairs young feminist activists from our 31 Member countries (we have a strong young feminist network across Europe) with senior-level traditional movement leaders from diverse movements (EWL is a respected convener of social movements). We will publicize the programme, have participants write blogs and record their experience, and reward the most successful mentor-mentee pair with a special prize.
The European Women's Lobby is the largest umbrella organisation of women's rights associations in Europe. We work towards a future where both men and women shape Europe and European Democracy on an equal footing, working towards a vision of inclusion, sustainability, care and strength.
This project will work with 50 young feminists and 50 social movement leaders, however the entire journey will be broadcast and shared with an audience of hundreds of thousands of people across 31 European countries, via social media.
All ideas are welcome! Which social movements specifically would benefit from our reverse mentoring programme?
