Service Civil International
Service Civil International is active in several European countries. Our partner, SCI Hellas, is based in Greece, however we will rely on the different branches to conduct the project.
It is still a necessity today to change the negative perception of refugees among public opinions in Europe. RISE was established in 2016 with the aim of fostering the social and political participation of refugees. Besides advocacy and awareness-raising, RISE plans now to take a step forward by engaging refugees and migrants in volunteering activities - these contributing to create links with the local society and to develop a genuine feeling of belonging, for the benefit of every citizen.
The project will be carried out in the 14 European countries in which RISE is involved.
Several EU countries are currently facing crisis and a lack of social cohesion. It is necessary to restore a climate of trust, for which refugees can play a key role by being actors of social change - so that our societies witness the positive contributions refugees may bring in their host country.
RISE intends to continue its actions to foster the cohesion and mutual understanding which are crucially needed to make our societies more inclusive. By actively taking part to the local life, many refugees will increase the links that bound them to the citizens and thus improve their inclusion.
RISE will continue advocacy and raising awareness activities as it started. In this new phase refugees and migrants, especially newcomers, will be encouraged to participate in voluntary activities. Our partner, a voluntary service organisation based in various European countries, will bring its support to each RISE member in order to reach this objective. The specificity of our approach lies in the active participation of refugees and migrants in the conduct and achievements of the project.
As an association working for the inclusion and empowerment of refugee communities, we wish to develop such actions at a broader scale - so that refugees can be fully recognized as active contributors to the society. RISE has shown concrete results so far and we would like to make it sustainable.
The direct beneficiaries of this project are refugee and migrant communities across Europe - however, societies as a whole will also benefit from the project’s outcomes. Therefore authorities, activists and citizens from all over Europe will be at the centre of RISE activities and outcomes.
Discussing and exchanging ideas with other stakeholders engaged in a similar process is always fruitful and inspiring. We are always looking for contributions that could improve the effectiveness of the project and open new prospects. We remain open for future collaborations with other partners.
