Idea pitch

GlobalSay is an online supported community for you - if you want to invite others for an important face-to-face talk about important topics for us all. And if you want decision-makers to hear your conclusions.

Where will your idea take place?

Based in Copenhagen, will take place all over Europe. Online and offline.

Why does Europe need your idea?

Public Participation needs to be scaled up, cover all of Europe/World, take place locally, in local language, and still be of very high standard, well informed, transparent, and economically feasible. That is needed if we want Public Participation to be a practical tool for dealing with our transnational challenges.

What is your impact?

Finish and test an online GlobalSay community support platform. The Platform makes it possible for single citizens to become members, take part in local GlobalSay meetings, volunteer to host and/or facilitate dialogue meetings, or to take part in meetings. The platform delivers all support functions to manage the memberships, set up, find and join meetings. And to run the meetings, including information videos, facilitation functions and vote/opinion collection from the participants.

How do you get there?

1) The GlobalSay web software has been mock-up planned and the underlying database is being built now. 2) We have funding for finishing a basic version of the software, but we 3) need funding for real-life testing it on a real societal challenge, and 4) optimising the web tools.
We would want to make a 4-5 country test case (probably Denmark, France, Bulgaria, Lithuania and UK) in autumn 2016, involving 50-75 citizens per country (plus any number of volunteers and volunteering countries). Refugee situation would be an obvious topic for the first test.

What is your story?

-

Who are you doing it for?

It is a trans-national democracy project. We want to support trans-European and global public participation in order to strengthen deliberative democracy and get the citizens and decision-makers closer to each other. All trans-national issues are dealt with top-down - we need bottom-up input to trans-national decision-making that influences the life of all of us.

What makes your idea stand apart?

Nothing like it exists. And it is highly needed.
There is no Public Participation method, which can provide local and trans-national PP at the same time.
And, it will be very cheap as compared to existing forms of large-scale Public Participation, since the costs for a GlobalSay "action" will be information materials, development of the GlobalSay questions and analysis of the results. The meetings are financed by the citizens voluntary work. Cheap means feasible at large scale!

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

1) Would you like to join as citizen member when it becomes real? 2) To host a local meeting? (4-x00 participants), 3) To be trained as facilitator? 4) Would you or your organisation consider to be a "National Node" taking care of the national language version of the software, information materials, questions etc. and taking action to expand the national community? 5) Which topics do you think we should take up first when we are ready? 6) Did you visit www.globalsay.org and find it informative?
