4. "Work in Progress" , Italy.https://www.facebook.com/workinpietramelara/ 5. Searching for Austrian NGO in the youth field with experience in art workshops and events in public spaces.
Everyone knows and loves Zorbas the movie and the song. But who knows that Zorbas was actually an immigrant? 5 youth from Greece will start an allegorical trip as today is being made by thousands from immigrants and refugees every day. From Greece to EU- From Athens to Brussels! Dancing Zorbas with other European Youth in Rome, Ljubljana, Vienna, Berlin and finally in Brussels! To promote solidarity and intercultural understanding, Art events will be made in each country ending with Zorbas.
Athens - Greece, Rome - Italy, Ljubjana - Slovenia, Vienna - Austria, Berlin - Germany, Brussels - Belgium.
Currently we are looking for an Austrian partner. The biggest challenge of our poject is to ensure the permission in different countries to make our public events. Our partners are experienced organizations and we count on them for that.
Zorbas the Greek - Zorbas the immigrant is actually the same parson. But everyone knows Zorbas! Don’t care where he from is because we dance and we have fun. On the same way we want to promote the solidarity from European Youth to the immigrants and refugees today. Does it really matter where they from are? A human is a human no matter his origin. We are all seeking happiness. We aim to raise the awareness and change the attitude of EU young citizens towards to humans - immigrants or not.
"- Can you teach me to dance?
- Dance? Did you say DANCE?".
That’s the dialogue of the most famous scene before the sirtaki at Zorbas movie. And this is our method. We will teach EU citizens to DANCE. We will promote DANCE. DIVERSITY- AWARENESS - NON FORMAL EDUCATION - CRITICAL THOUGHT - EUROPEAN IDENTITY. Via art events, thematic seminars and non formal workshops in each country. In every city we will stay 5 days. Day1: ZORBAS flash mob: Let’s Dance. Day 2 and 3: Art workshops: European ID: Connection in Diversity (paint, photo, music, dance). Day 4 and 5: Seminar: Zorbas the immigrant: Raise the awareness for immigration and refugees today, Support the critical thought of youth towards to Media and EU immigration policy (how we can influence in a better direction?)
We believe that EU young citizens have the power to change our society in a better way. Our target group is young people 18-30 years old and we aim to show them that European Union works in a very Democratic way that actually allow us to influence policies and make the difference. Except our partners we are aiming to cooperate as well with Europe Direct Offices as we have an excellent cooperation with the network in Greece and they will support our initiative.
Our allegorical approach in order to combine Art and Migration makes our idea unique. "Zorbas the Immigrant" will make his dancing trip from Greece to EU. As thousands of immigrants do each day. When we are dancing we are seeking happiness. Same as all the people, who are coming to EU. They are seeking Happiness. Sirtaki is danced always in a big group with contact. For us symbolizes solidarity and togetherness. A message we want to pass.Only together we can be happy. As only together we DANCE.
