Better Place is an evolutionary step forward from the plain old boring civic problem reporting system! Our system opens up a whole new world of funding for schools, municipalities, NGOs and citizens by connecting these groups in a fun, mutually beneficial way. Users can see what people think of their ideas, companies can see what people want and municipalities can show what they have done. Pupils can learn to manage projects and teachers can teach civics. Better Place: make every place better!

Pupils have a clear idea about what would make their school better and companies want to invest their CSR budgets in schools in a targeted and impactful way. Teachers face the challenge of how to introduce pupils to government, democracy and project management. Our Better Place system and the #betterschool campaign already surmounts these challenges in the Czech Republic and we think it can do the same in Germany. This pilot is a gateway to helping connect town halls, people and companies.
2+ pupil-sourced projects will be completed with funding from a local company. Pupils will learn how to take a project from idea completion and how the democratic process works. 2+ companies will be connected with 2+ local schools. 100+ new users will be able to post project ideas for their urban/school environment. The system will be translated for the German speaking market and partners will be ready for our grassroots revolution in urban planning and Corporate Social Responsibility spending.
Timeline: May-Jun: Partner search is conducted for schools and companies online and at trade events and networks in Ruhr region. Jul-Aug: Translate and localise the application, website and material. Sept-Oct: A training day in Kolín/Kutna Hora. Nov-Dec: 1 #Better School pilot campaign is run in Ruhr school. Jan-Feb: 1 open day in Germany. Mar-Apr: 1 #Better School follow up campaign is run in Ruhr school. Method: To maximise impact we will use the campaign to generate interest, partners and ensure that the system will have a long term impact in Central Europe. Results: Compiled into promotional material to find more towns and companies for Better Place. Indicators:Many of the indicators are in the system automatically but we will also write a report to maximise the impact of the projects.
Our target groups are school children, their parents and teachers as well as companies who wish to invest in CSR. We will demonstrate how pupils can get involved in their local area through creativity, organisation and hard work. Teachers will have a tool which helps project work and shows how citizenship is an active duty, not a passive right. Companies will have the views of young people so they can smartly invest in the local community. Better Place connects citizens, municipalities and NGOs.
Our #campaigns facilitates change in our urban environments by allowing citizens, towns, companies, schools and NGO's to suggest, manage, and implement new project ideas. Microsoft, Foxconn and TPCA are using this function to manage their CSR programs in CZ. Suggestions are collected sorted, visualised in a user friendly way. Users can 'like' and share the projects they would most like to see. The system is integrated into social networks, maximising the impact and reach of the ideas.
