We want to develop a serious game for mobile devices in which the player can participate in simulated stakeholder communications. Such communication situations are crucial success factor for transformation processes. The game will be based on ongoing transformation processes and projects in land use, energy transition and migration in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, in which the applicant is highly involved and which we identified as representative for a variety of settings and issues throughout the EU.

We provide a creative offer for better understanding complex communication processes of change (tackling the challenge of transformation settings which contribute to stay within the planetary guardrails,WBGU). Dialogical communication is a part of transformative literacy. The challenge of cohesion in Europe also implies this literacy. Therefore, participatory communication is (1) deliberating, (2) creating robust knowledge, (3) creating acceptance of change, (4) self-assurance and orientation.
We want to bring European citizens together in a virtual space to foster solution finding and legitimate deliberation for complex situations of change. In so doing we want raise people's awareness that the road to impact is a road of desires, fears and attitudes.
The concrete outcome of the project is the development and tested beta version of a serious game for mobile devices that incorporates features of simulation and gamification i.e. training elements.
We chose specific settings in specific and complex situations where stakeholder communication plays a significant role and has been well assessed by the applicant and the involved stakeholders and facilitators: Energy transition in small municipalities, change of land use: renaturation of wetlands, and migration. The settings and the situations are based on projects in which the applicant was in charge of facilitating stakeholder engagement. The results and the experiences of these projects are edited.
Based on this framework we will develop a game structure. The player will be able to choose from a number of attitudes and statements in different communication settings to get to a range of options for deliberation and communication towards a better understanding.
Our project addresses young future stakeholders, facilitators and change agents who have to manage and communicate in complex situations of transformation. We want to raise awareness for how different people perceive and adapt information, stories, visions etc. and react on, for instance, invitations, demands, instructions for different reasons, interests, and power relations. The younger age group is clearly addressed as being accustomed to gaming.
We focus on what is crucial for Europe's future: more adequate and more legitimate communications and deliberations. We combine the great transformation processes in great challenges that do not appear likely in European discourses of everyday life. However, these processes already show imprints in everyday life and suddenly can be seen on the games console.
