kama is a new way to gain visibility for hundreds of thousands of charities online. In it’s core, kama is a project database from Non-Profit Organisations that makes the data available in real-time. The database can be accessed through an API to make something incredible happen: Creative people all over the world can use the information to enrich their apps, articles, websites and products with projects that make a real difference in the world. kama’s goal is to make the big shift happen.
The key problem is: There is a huge number of non-profit projects and organisations that make a real difference in the world – but nobody knows about them, because they either don’t have the money to invest heavily in online marketing, or they don’t know how to play the system in order to create highly visible campaigns. On the other side there are millions of people who want to take action, but forget about it, because it’s so much easier to browse the internet. We bring them together.
kama will be a powerful API that gives journalists, developers and entrepreneurs instant access to all active projects from non-profit organisations based on topics and keywords. The system is designed for flexibility, so that these information can be used in many different contexts: recommendations in articles, separate apps or famous listicles. But the goal is not just to show information. Together with our users we will encourage their readeres to take real actions.
We are currently exploring three parts: 1. Building the first version of the API 2. Talking to many non-profits 3. Talking to developers and our global journalist and startup community. For kama, the key will be to provide a powerful and easy to use API to a growing community who will turn our data into products. That's why we are talking to a lot of people and build partnerships for our next steps. With our first experiments we proved already, that the fast aggregation of a large amount of data is possible and that we can provide useful information after one week of development. We also got very promising results from a large amount of developers and creatives, who like the idea to build new things at Hackathons and on their own, in order to help charities with their fundraising.
We are doing this for all non-profits and charities that do have a meaningful impact on society. kama will be able to help 3 groups: We help the helpers by building a global support-community. We help media makers in giving their stories more impact. We enable citizens to take action in making the world a better place. Our system will empower media consumers to become active and engage in the social challenges media is reporting about. In the future, it will be only one click to become active.
Our approach is to combine modern technologies and a flexible data foundation to bring new forms of marketing to a large amount of non-profits. The biggest asset for kama will be a combination of it’s core database that will aggregate the work from hundreds of thousands of charities and it’s global community that will turn this data into useful products. Nobody was able to solve this yet. But with our experience and the community that we can tap into, we will be able to make this idea come true.
Funding requested from Advocate Europe
Most expenses will be personnel costs including developing the prototype (12000 EUR) and salarys for part-time positions (24000 EUR). The funding will also cover initial administration costs (4000 EUR), marketing and the initial community work (2000 EUR)
