Idea Sketch | Proposal

Idea pitch

Atelier Da Rua, an EU urban design human factory!
- to dialogue, think, design and build together our streets
- an urban design methodology towards a more participated city, linking local and global, traditional and innovative ressources
- an accessible and open tool for projects imagined, designed and built with the community throughout the different stages of the process to improve the public space and create more human and valued places

Where will your idea take place?

Paris, ïle-de-France

Why does Europe need your idea?

A SPATIAL & SOCIAL PROBLEM! Streets comprise more than 80% of public space in cities but are they recognized as an important social space able to valorize public and private space? Many areas are branded by negligence concerning investment, use and maintenance of streets. These situations illustrate the contradiction between an urgent need of urban design intervention and the scarcity of work, and also the difficulty for public administrations to promote strategies to valorize public space.

What is your impact?

Affirm our streets value; promote accessible urban design action-research projects; defend skills mixity and actors implication around local projects; raise awareness on urban design and citizenship. This EU urban design human factory will contribute to an open and systematic culture on urban design. Our success - trigger financial sustainability and expand the concept and team enlarging our network. A year from now we expect to have the beta version of the data base and local projects running.

How do you get there?

What is your story?

ii) Private sector: local and global companies, local residents and users, landlords

i) public and private clients, associations, companies, research centers, ONG’s, fondations.

What makes your idea stand apart?

We want to make drawings to shape local projects and EU minds.
We are portuguese, spanish, italian, french, dutch, brazilian... We are european and worldwide citizens acting glocally for a better present and a better future!
As a seed, we propose a school / a lab / a human factory!, a 2.0 version of Casa do Risco, the europeean drawing house in the XVII century where glocal urban projects were designed mixing competences, giving work and developing solutions where we still live today!
