A summer school dedicated to encouraging young European leaders to come up with creative and innovative solutions to rule of law issues concerning the European community at large, but focused on Central and Eastern Europe.
Europe is being threatened by multiple conflicts and instability, thus threatening the development of future generations. In order to successfully surpass this situation, resources need to be invested in the young leaders of Europe. We believe the time has come to be creative and use unconventional tools, thus we are looking to identify and connect young leaders with diverse educational and professional backgrounds, interested in developing solutions to Europe’s rule of law current problems
The main objective is to identify 25 young European leaders with various skills and help them understand what rule of law means and how to develop instruments meant to consolidate it. Secondly, a network of young leaders will be created, working on developing viable solutions to Europe’s current issues with the help of instruments they will learn during the seminar. A successful outcome would be a network of activists fighting for social and political change where derailments occur.
- Hold Skype meetings with our partners on identifying speakers and drafting the agenda (June 2016). - Launch an open call for applications. Applicants will send a resume, together with an essay (topic: what tools would you use to fight derailments from democratic principles). We expect to have a list of participants by the middle of July (June-July 2016). - Make logistic arrangements to hold an 7 day seminar in Romania (location, travel arrangements) (July-August 2016). - Hold the seminar in September 2016 which will focus on: rule of law principles, watchdog activities, fundraising, project management, creative entrepreneurship, social economy. - Hold a bar camp for pitching project ideas addressing the issues discussed during the seminar. We have allocated funds to finance 3 initiatives
Young European leaders throughout Europe, with different backgrounds interested in becoming activists. We will open the call for participants coming from all over Europe, but mostly from the Balkans and Central and Eastern Europe. We are looking from NGO activists, politicians, creatives, journalists, business persons, representatives of public institutions and others. The participants must prove the will to get involved for a longer term.
We will use nonformal tools such as labyrinth theatre and bring different specialists such as judges, film directors or journalists. The participants will meet local stakeholders (mayors, prefects), entrepreneurs and NGOs that have developed successful projects. It will bring together participants with different backgrounds in order to create unusual teams to develop ingenious solutions for civic challenges in their communities. We will help them learn how to fundraise and work with stakeholders
