Mine Vaganti NGO will implement a 7 day open awareness raising seminar aimed at sensitizing the general public, and in particular youth categories, about the potential of Satire a tool of active citizenship as well as a powerful instrument of minorities’ rights advocacy. At the same time, the seminar will promote education on the themes of non discriminatory speech in Satire with a view to fighting the use of Satire as an instrument of discrimination against particular groups.
Today's open society coupled with the growth of modern media (in particular Social Media) has removed most barriers between individuals and public debate, blurring the divide between providers and consumers of information. However, lack of awareness about the principles of inclusive communication at the societal level, in particular among the younger generations, has laid the grounds for an use of language increasingly inspired to culturally, religiously and ethnically based exclusion and discri
Through the present project we want:
- To educate the general public in using Satire as a tool to promote dialogue and social inclusion.
- To sensitize the public about the themes of non-discriminatory speech and inclusive communication.
The open awareness-raising activity foreseen by the project will take place in Sassari (Sardinia) with the participation of staff experienced in education and communication from the 3 partner organizations.
The activiity will be delivered through a Non Fomal Education approach (Workshops, simulations, work-groups, debates etc.) by recognized and experienced international Trainers.
Non Fomral Education activities will be enriched by numerous practical examples of projects that have brought about change and success in the subject areas covered by project activities.
The audience we aim at affecting through the present project comprises the general public (as both consumenrs and providers of information in the new digital era), Youth groups, mass media and staff operating in the latter. At the same time, by spreading inclusive and non-discriminatory atttudes, the project aims at positively affecting the condition of disadvantaged groups and minorities (i.e. Roma people)
The project is innovative in exploring the theme of inclusion and non discrimination in Satire, a form of expression which provides considerable opportunities of advocacy but which, by virtue of its inner logic of circumventing established limits and taboos, is particularly prone to negative distortions.
