Centre for European Progression
Our idea is to create a website full of useful and easy-to-understand graphs. The graphs will be relevant to Europe – being social, political, economic or cultural aspects of European Affairs, it must contain data at least about 4 different EU countries. The basic idea is to build an engine that feeds in graphs from the most relevant think tanks, research institutions, public bodies and European institutions. We believe that people like diagrams and infographics better than reading plain texts.
People are less and less connected to the European Union, however most of them are in favour of the idea of the EU. People not being aware and interested in their own political life and the broad environment they live in. There is something that is called European Union and Brussels, but it is distant and bureaucratic in their views. The lack of knowledge about current policies and trends creates disconnection and less willingness to be involved in political discussions and participation.
We want to give people an online space and an application where they can find easy to understand information, which otherwise could be only found hidden in studies or very dispersedly on the internet. We want to help them reconnect to Europe by knowing more about it. We want to become the HUB of infographics about Europe. Not by creating content, but by connecting people with the creators of information and knowledge. We want to become the place where people head to for visualised data about EU.
We create a website and a mobile application (Android, iOS). With IT experts, we will create an engine that streamlines infographics and indexes the source content. By screening the website the infographic is located in the software also provides recommendations for tagging. One of our team members will screen these recommendations daily and provide more accurate tags. The proper and intelligent tagging will ensure that it will be easy to find information through the search feature of the website. We will promote it through our network and organise a kick-off event in Brussels to make it widely known. On the long term, we want to find other sponsors to keep it sustainable, but the start would be possible with Adv.Europe's help. We are an NGO, it will never become a for profit initiative.
For the ordinary people, who feel that statistics and politics are boring. They are not, just not framed in a way to be interesting. We want to change this. By knowing more about their political-social-economic broad environment hopefully they will find populist and extremist messages less attractive as they would not believe fake arguments based on fake data. We want to embed our project to be part of people's everyday (news)feed and online activity.
There is nothing like our idea available now. No application like 'graph of the day', no thematic Facebook page specialised for charts about Europe, or any other platform. Of course, every organisation's and institution's website has a part which is dedicated for graphs, but one platform, which would collect all of them and would made them easily accessible - it does not exist. We will use the already available data and deliver it to the people who are interested in it.
