With this project we will include several stakeholders as we believe in the power of cooperation. In the first phase, we will include volunteer organizations and nursing homes, intergenerational centers, universities for lifelong learning, associations for seniors, youth associations and student organizations. At the same time we will include local communities: municipalities, libraries and local museums.

Idea pitch

Simbioza Bondy Book of e-Memories will help elders collect and store precious life memories through intergenerational cooperation! After introducing the web platform, we will connect pairs of elder and young volunteers. In 3 months they will create a final product equipped with photo and video materials, leaving behind a personal legacy as well as cultural heritage. In this regard we can get new perspectives on places and people through stories that would in other way stay forgotten.

Where will your idea take place?

Across Slovenia

Why does Europe need your idea?

Simbioza Bondy is addressing social challenges: social exclusion and loneliness of the elder population, lack of live communication between generations (young-elder), and inactive participation via voluntarism. The elder carry a legacy through their life experiences, but are very often left out in the modern digitalized era which they find hard to follow. On the other hand, the young are living on smart devices and becoming more and more socially dysfunctional while losing real feel with society

What is your impact?

In a year, Simbioza will have established a web platform and 15 products of Simbioza Bondy book that will connect local communities through intergenerational cooperation, leave a great impact on participants and also be ready for scaling European wise. Our product will be modular, which means other countries and partners can adapt the app as they see most fit for their markets. Simbioza Bondy will build bridges between generations, families, local communities and countries.

How do you get there?

Simbioza Bondy takes on bottom up approach, meaning we first find volunteers and elder participants within local communities, connect them and set up weekly meetings. Volunteers will beforehand learn how to fully use platform, which we will develop first and test on some pilot pairs across Slovenia. With the launch of the project we will implement a nationwide PR campaign through radio, TV and jumbo posters and citylights. When we will have first products – Bondy books, we will contact municipalities and libraries and prepare common events to present the results through stories. We want to emphasize remote local communities and include elder aged over 70 that are lonely or have very little live contact as well as young unemployed and give them a meaningful intergenerational experience.

What is your story?

-

Who are you doing it for?

There are two direct target groups: the elder aged over 65 and the young aged between 16 and 30. The elder face many challenges: retiring, losing their friends or family, facing living alone, and lacking true contacts with their children and grandchildren. Teenagers cannot function without smart devices, but younger students face long-term unemployment. We also indirectly address broader audience as some of these stories will be public, so the local community will have the possibility to join.

What makes your idea stand apart?

Our idea represents a social innovation as we address the topic of social inclusion and lifelong learning in new way through intergenerational cooperation. The Bondy platform is modular and easily scalable to other countries, meaning each e-book can be adapted. At the same time we strengthen awareness of younger European generations of topics they nowadays take for granted, such as democracy, freedom and human rights. With Bondy we strive to connect stakeholders that did not cooperate beforehand
