Idea pitch

What if anyone could understand what it means to communicate a project - to talk efficiently about a topic and make it possible to reach out to thousand of people?

We want to train thousands of Communication professionals to talk about Europe and the European Union in the most effective way – and we want to do it for free on the first e-learning platform entirely dedicated to Public Communication.

A one-stop shop of free high-quality courses about videos, social medias, campaigning and more.

Why does Europe need your idea?

We worked for a dozen of European projects and a hundred NGO projects - most of them financed by the EU with taxpayer’s money – and we pinpointed the main problem they face: Being heard.

Most of these projects are not efficient in Communication - and as a direct consequence citizens are not informed properly about what happens in the EU. We want to train the communicants so that it impacts immediately hundreds of thousand people. There is a need and demand existing and we want to address it.

What is your impact?

We want to help Public Communicants anywhere in Europe become more efficient at their job – by offering them real practical courses that will radically change their approach and make their communication much more impactful. We are aiming at 4000 users / month spending more than 7mn. training on our platform after 6 months. After a year we expect a raise in traffic and quality of campaigns and to expand the platform to anyone who needs it outside of Europe - NGO activists in the first place.

How do you get there?

Old-Continent has been establishing partnerships for the last 2 years to make this e-learning platform possible - and instead of 50 clients we now want to train 4000 communication officers in Europe. It is of utmost importance because each of them is a huge multiplier for Europe and the EU as a whole.

The e-learning platform is a central point for training NGO activists, Communicants, and even trainers - with courses adapted to different levels, quizzes, videos - in order to make sense of a topic in 5 or 20 minutes. Templates and practical guides to the most used tools will complement the approach and any user will be able to measure its progress and share its learning steps. The platform itself will be classic in the learning world and the content very well crafted for our audience.

Who are you doing it for?

We are talking in a first phase to Communication officers, project leaders of EU-funded projects, NGO activists and students who use English as a main professional language. During dozens of contacts and interviews they expressed their need for such a tool and the difference it could make in their daily life. We aimed mostly at people who regularly train themselves, take MOOCs or other courses online. In a second phase we want partnerships of translation in other languages.

What makes your idea stand apart?

Most often we think about problems and try to cure the symptoms. The European Idea is quite a sick man at the moment, and the cure is not in patching it here and there.

There is need for a structural change in its way to connect with people, to talk about what it does and inform citizens. This relies on changing the way the people whose job is to talk about it - do it, whether in large projects or smaller ones. the very same people we are talking to repeatedly asked us for such a tool.

Additional partners have expressed interest and will provide in-kind support.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

In the last 3 pitch presentations we made about this project we obtained a massive support from the target audience (Communication Officers / NGO people). The community dimension should not be understated to learn and progress. We welcome any proposals for courses, ideas to implement from Communication Officers all around Europe.
