Idea pitch

Inclusive society is the future of Europe. With this motto we suggest modeling inclusive society in two post-socialist European states, Armenia and Bulgaria, where exclusion of people with disabilities is still an alarming issue. To challenge public attitudes and build inclusive society, the project seeks to test models of inclusion in both countries engaging diverse specialists, share the outputs and build new ideas and models based on the results. Better Europe is inclusive Europe.

Where will your idea take place?

Yerevan, Armenia and Sofia, Bulgaria

Why does Europe need your idea?

Armenia and Bulgaria as post-socialist states still face exclusion of people with disabilities. The situation is changing gradually, but lack of public awareness on inclusion and disability is an alarming issue. Formation of inclusive society is a priority policy approach adopted by the states. Though they strategise their actions in building inclusive society in accordance to ratified UN Conventions on Rights of Child and People with Disabilities, they still need support from civil society.

What is your impact?

The project aims to promote inclusive society in Armenia and Bulgaria considering experience of both societies and potential of organisations advocating for rights protection. The project aims to raise public awareness on inclusion and disability through developing and running various models of inclusion. This is a project of experience sharing, it’s learning and experimenting process built in on previous experience of the engaged organisations and collaboration within the project.

How do you get there?

Implementing organisations will work on development of inclusion supporting models in view of cultural environment. The models will be run and the process will be regularly monitored and discuss in the working group of the implementing partners. Inclusive models such as 1) interactive inclusive theater, 2) inclusive clubs in the capitals and rural areas, and an inclusive camp as a final product, 3) production and promotion of developmental games will be tested. Through the process, key ideas will be generated for the camp. The project will be concluded with 10-day inclusive camp in Armenia engaging specialists from Armenia and Bulgaria to 1) work with children, 2) generate ideas for new projects and games, methods to face challenges on the way to inclusive society.

What is your story?

-

Who are you doing it for?

The project will contribute to awareness raising and attitudinal change in the society thus the whole society in Armenia and Bulgaria, as well as people with disabilities, children with and without disabilities, their parents, specialists working with children will benefit from the project.
The project will engage a bunch of specialists from both countries, will partner with local and national governments, other local and international organisations upholding them as stakeholders of the project.

What makes your idea stand apart?

This project is unique in a way that specialists and experts representing different countries across Europe and variety of specializations are going to work together to make the idea of inclusive society true. Back to back psychologists, speech and art therapists, entrepreneurs and game designers are going to create new models of inclusion, new ideas and approaches to face everyday challenges. This is a project, where civil society backs government in building the desired society.
