Idea pitch

Urban Farmer Network is a project that aims to promote urban regeneration across Europe, by spreading values and philosophy of Farm Cultural Park, a successful experiment of regeneration in Favara, a tiny town of Sicily. The main purpose is, taking a cue from this experience, inspiring and spreading good practices across Europe, by creating a network of Urban Farmers, ambassadors who want to promote cultural and social values in different urban contexts.

Where will your idea take place?

Everywhere in Europe

Why does Europe need your idea?

The big challenge is to lay the foundation for regeneration by promoting a change in the way of thinking, living and dwelling in a city. It is a unique opportunity to share ideas, promote art and culture to create value in different territories and above of all to create an optimism circuit across Europe, through concrete testimonies and the enthusiasm of people who want to make their cities more happy places to live.

What is your impact?

The project’s objective is to build a big and powerful network of citizens that interact with and put in touch the protagonists of innovation and creativity in different cities across Europe. The Urban Farmers will animate their cities spreading values and triggering action in the following fields of interest: public design, urban regeneration and contemporary culture.

How do you get there?

Build the network: a call to join is already online. The Urban Farmers will be the protagonists of the project and they will organize events to promote and spread the farm values in the city where they live. Design Your Farm Party (DYFP): every Urban Farmer is expected to organize a party per year. It is a format that can be easily replicated, characterized by the involvement of different actors in moments of conviviality to build stable urban relationships. Meet the network: 4 thematic meetings across Europe will be organized during the 12 months to facilitate cohesion and exchange. Share your good practice on the web platform: the platform will virtually connect people and places and will be the main tool to manage the European network and spread its values and upcoming activities.

What is your story?

Who are you doing it for?

Each Urban Farmer, called to share values and organize an event per year in his/her city, is at the same time the main actor and beneficiary of the project. This is a unique opportunity to learn and construct interesting relationships and be involved in the cultural and social development sector at a local but also international level.

What makes your idea stand apart?

Urban Farmer Network, thanks to its philosophy and its easy format, can go viral. It can be a great tool to raise citizens’ awareness on different urban issues and to inspire collaborative processes. Its strength is in the ability to involve a great number of citizens and show how small local actions can become a flywheel for innovation and development. Anyone who cares about local development and community identity for its territory will be happy to be involved.
