Route28 is a European journey in the middle of your city! At this 1-day event, you will be able to truly feel 28 countries at 28 stations and experience the European influences we are surrounded with on a daily basis.

Why does Europe need your idea?

Most citizens experience "Europe" and "the EU" as far too complex, elitist and even boring. They don't feel at all attached do it. In times of huge crises, we want to remind what Europe is truly about: its people, cultures and countries!

What is your impact?

We aim to give some 1000 - 1500 people in Vienna the chance to go on an Erasmus-like journey whilst being in their familiar surrounding. By that we want to make them more aware of the diversity of influences that we are surrounded by on a daily basis and make them more curious and empathetic towards the differences we have, even amongst Europeans. If this leads to only a fraction of them being more interested in what's going on in Europe and believe in positive, common approaches, we succeeded.

How do you get there?

We want people to truly feel Europe, its countries and cultures and the diversity of it. We have hence chosen to focus on Europe Day and fill this day with life! We will implement a 1-day-public event in Vienna around Europe Day 2017 that will give you the chance to experience traces of European countries in this city in the most unconventional, interactive and surprising way. Each station will be linked to one specific country through either the performing people, the location or the activity. The content of the stations will reach from cooking Polish pierogi, listening to Portuguese Fado, playing smell-memory with Bulgarian rose oil or discovering the history behind "Swedes square" to playing Spanish ballgames.

What is your story?


Who are you doing it for?

We want to specifically engage people who might not be the biggest "Europe/EU-enthusiasts", the ones who would not join a Europeday-event. We want this event to be very low threshold and really bring the ones on board who will be attracted by the entertainment character. The target audience reaches from families to students or trainees up to pensioners.

What makes your idea stand apart?

We are on the edge of culture and politics.
We don't want an event character like an evening-reception at an embassy where you taste Greek ouzo and olives. And we don't want boring panel discussions or information folders on content that is far too complex for most of us.
We want people to really engage and feel elements of these cultures and countries with all their senses. We want to meet them psychologically by using elements of gamification to guide them through this journey.
