Peace Museum Vienna was created in order to mainstream peace education to the public by sharing lessons and stories from the lives of Peace Heroes.
We want to develop an European Peace Walk project with Peace Heroes as main actors. The pilot will be launched in Vienna in September 2016 and we will aim to reproduce it in The Hague, Uppsala, Budapest, Zagreb and London. We will create teams that will represent one heroe, and promote him/her while walking through the cities in armony.
Our mission is to inspire and educate a new generation of peace leaders. Our ambition is to raise peace consciousness and to touch people’s hearts and minds by asking one question:
WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR PEACE TODAY?
The lives and achievements of our international Peace Heroes inspire us of equality, non-violence, and respect, values that are crucial in the Europe of this time.
This project will give an opportunity to speak out loud, attract government as well as public attention and thus bridge the gap between peace in theory and peace in practice in different cities in Europe. With the positioning of the Peace Heroes in a Peace Walk as stars in the very centre of each city we estimate to inspire more than 2 million people in total over the year around Europe.
- Organise a successful Peace Heroe's Walk, trying to involve all the relevant actors of society, civil society, diplomats, government institutions, educational institutions, citzens, etc.
- Create a pilot in Vienna on the 24th of September 2016, honouring the International peace day, which will include teams representing their chosen heroe.
- Replicate it in Zagreb, The Hague, Budapest, Uppsala and London until the end of 2017.
- Produce a guide for local teams in our partner network to implement their Heroes Peace Walk.
In a wider sphere we would like to target the public opinion, as well as to raise awareness to governments and authorities. On a more local sphere we will work to benefit any citizen or organisation aiming to create change for peace.
The Peace Heroes Walk brings together a variety of components; the peace education, the social gathering and intercultural learning. The peace heroes walk promotes a physical activity and aims to bring Europe together for a common goal. The Peace Heroes Walk is a quick, inexpensive project that has a long-term sustainability throughout Europe. This idea is easily transferable with low cost to any country, sector or organization with the willingness to promote peace.
