Idea pitch

The Congress of Women is not only the biggest Polish feminist organization. It's also the largest social movement, that brings together women from all over Poland, irrespective of their views, origins or professions. Its emanation is a great conference, being held every year in Warsaw. It gathers about 10 000 participants, mostly women, from all over Poland and the world, united around 3 ideas: democracy, civil society and gender equality. This year, we're organizing its 8th edition.

Where will your idea take place?

Why does Europe need your idea?

The Congress of Women has been building the modern history of Poland, Polish women and is not going to give up, even if democratic standards in Poland may be under threat. Polish political reality has been changing and that only proves the importance of social movements. Conscious citizens constitute the basis of the rule of law . The 8th Congress of Women will be an emanation of those who don’t agree with the decline of democracy and women’s rights.

What is your impact?

Numbers: 8000 participants, 100 media representatives, 20 diplomats, 5 plenary sessions, 30 parallel panels and 15 workshops will be satisfying.
Impact: in the light of the current political situation in Poland, we want to show our solidarity with Europe, our sense of European solidarity. As every year, the panellists of the 8th Congress of Women will elaborate a list of our demands, which will be sent to the Polish authorities. Next year,we'll verify if our demands will have been implemented.

How do you get there?

Our project has already been being developed. The registration started on March 1st, 2016. The invitations - both to Polish and foreign participants, were sent. Members of the Government and Parliament, President of Poland and the First Lady, Ministers in the Presidential Chancellery, heads of Polish national institutions, diplomats, as well as foreign activists were invited. We've been currently working on the programme, which is going to reflect the current social atmosphere of Poland and Europe. We'll be talking about i.a. refugees, democracy, economy, health, reproductive rights and labour legislation. Every topic has its leader who is in charge of the development of the specific debate and the choice of panelists. The press office of the Congress of Women is in charge of PR.

What is your story?

Who are you doing it for?

Our goal is to bring together women and to build ties and solidarity among them. Women - representatives of different professions, businesswomen, entrepreneurs and employees, active in the labour market and unemployed, mothers and childless, social and political activists, 20+ and 50+. All of them united around one idea - to make our voice heard.

What makes your idea stand apart?

We'll bring together every man and woman, irrepsective of their membership in parties or organizations. The 8th Congress will remain nonpartisan - we've already invited representatives of the authorities, as well as the opposition.
The 8th Congress will be free of charge, open for every one, also from rural areas.
