Idea pitch

When A.K. decides to leave the Palestinian refugee Camp in Lebanon he leaves a camp where three of his friends have been beheaded in front of his eyes, as punishment for not joining the Hamas. His feet take him on the „balcanic route“ through Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia, Austria to Germany. Each of his steps / country visits will be reflected by an artistic piece, song, drawing, photography by an artist of each of these countries and reflections of refugees.

Where will your idea take place?

Directed from Germany, with artists from: Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia, Austria and Germany, with a final conference in Berlin / Germany

Why does Europe need your idea?

Day by Day more refugees arrive in Europe and media and a big movement in the society react with fear. With this project we want to reach out to build understanding, and create knowledge against this fear. Since the contacts to artists in each of these countries already exists through the experiences in this field by the organizers who have already worked with Aloe Blacc, Michael Ondaatje, Yves Bonnefoy etc it is rather the challenge to reach a wide audience to build an enormous platform.

What is your impact?

The audience (online and physically present in Berlin) will listen to stories from the point of view of a refugee, illegally crossing European borders and artists from each of these countries creating a piece of art as their point of observation, view or reflection of their point of view. We want to break down fears, create knowledge and create a platform for dialogue, listening and fearless coexistence.

How do you get there?

The project „Cloudy waters“ creates a dialogue between a refugee on his way through countries which, represented by the eye of an artist, return his view, and take a look at the new arrival, the traveller, the illegal, clandestine stranger passing by, stopping, leaving. Country by country artists will draw a picture of their own reflections, either by sounds, music, short films, lyrics, poems, photographies. Each country of this odysee will be represented by artistic pieces.
The artistic pieces will be presented in a conference in Berlin at Heimathafen Neukölln.
A.K. will read extracts from his book, an anecdote from each country, other refugees will join his perspective and add their voices, the artists will be present to respond, to tell him what they saw, see or just imagine.

What is your story?

Who are you doing it for?

This event is planned for audiences in Berlin and a worldwide audience through the Internet and the online platform that will be created for this project. It is the aim to document all pieces that will be created, upload each poem, song, photography on a site that will be promoted by the artists themselves, the international connections that No Boundaries e.V. has already built, on Facebook, Twitter and vimeo.

What makes your idea stand apart?

Rarely all sides get a space to speak out loud. Now we want to creat this platform where a photographer in Turkey presents photos inspired by the topic: Refugees in Turkey, while the refugees talk about their passage through Turkey through their poems, the Greek poet writes, the Macedonian MC writes a song, etc. All the pieces will be put together on the website and during the conference / festival in October in Berlin.
