Three playwrights coming from 3 European countries will work with a group of 9-12 young Greek playwrights on the creation of one-act plays around the subject of crisis and how it affects people’s lives. Also a group of actors will be available during the studio and the result will be presented as a work in progress.
How does theatre reflect the current situation people experience in Greece and in the rest of Europe? How can dramaturgy contribute in opening up a discussion on crisis? And more importantly, how can new emerging writers reflect on their reality and make an impact without losing their artistic identity? A way of bridging countries, thoughts, mentalities and promoting social, cultural and personal understanding.
In a historical period that Europe questions its cohesion, we aim to speak about how theatre can bring together the people in Europe and how Greek dramaturgy can play an important part in bringing forward questions and issues that reflect the current situation.
The project will be organized in 4 steps:
Step 1: September 2016 (three weeks) /All three writes work with all students.
Step 2: November 2016 (two weeks) / the students have progressed in their work. Students and writers work with actors staging scenes from the new texts, exploring forms and seeing how they work on stage.
Step 3: November 2016- April 2017 / each one of the writers selects one of the students. They work together in a mentor – student relationship. By the end of April three new plays will have been completed.
Step 4: May or June 2017. Public presentation of the plays
Young aspiring writers aged 20 – 35 years old, actors who want to test themselves working on something that it is written at that very moment, artists who are interested in being involved and cross-cultured in an international project.
The idea combines different aspects: giving space to new artists, creating new drama pieces on crisis and exploring forms of expressing reality in art.
