Our team of people with diverse background has decided to use skills for solving one of the biggest challenges of Europe: stereotypes, prejudices and misunderstanding towards Refugees who are constantly entering Europe from different borders. Bringing clear picture and real life stories to bigger community is one of the ways for solving the problem in communication and cooperation between citizens of EU and migrants who just arrived to European borders.
Middle East/ Europe/Caucasus
We see people on streets, who are different, and we create aggressive stereotyped images of them. We never ask ourselves, where they come from? How does their homeland look like? Did they lose their family members? Or may be having shelter next to your shelter is their only hope? The problem we address now is the miscommunication and misunderstanding between citizens of EU and wave of refugees. People need to see full picture and story behind strangers they meet in the streets.
Main goal of our project is to change attitudes in Europe towards Refugees and raise awareness about their culture and problems they face. We want people of different ages, sexes, nationalities to understand, everything and everyone has a story. There is much more to explore behind people we see as foreigners, who might steal our jobs, become our neighbors and open shop next to our place. We want to show the culture behind those people, who were approaching borders of Europe in hope to survive.
Main tools we use is photography, video and audio interviews, and web documentary, where online history will be created from the hot spots. We as photographers, social inclusion experts and oral history creators will travel through middle east, regions from which most of the refugees flee towards Turkey, Balkans, Mediterranean; meeting interesting people, organizing community meetings, taking interviews and pictures, gathering stories and creating web portal of oral history. Turkey - Middle East and North Africa-Mediterannean European border-Balkans will be our main targets of visiting refugee camps and locals, who meet the newcomers for first time. We will organize bigger exhibitions with public discussions in Berlin, Paris as well as Jerusalem and possibly Balcan cities.
First and foremost, we do this for two main target groups: EU citizens and refugees. On one hand we try to open up those communities who have miscommunication, misunderstanding, and simply lack of knowledge or empathy towards the migration process in EU. On the other hand, we let newcomers present their life and stories in a better way, not to let History forget another big tragedy driving people to leave their homelands without remembering it's heroes.
We are very diverse team: half of us coming from Georgia, which has already lost number of it's muslim population fighting for ISIS, and on the other hand we have our French colleagues, who have faced influence of migration and bold prejudices on their own communities. We live this tragedy happening right now every day, and we have a clue what to do about it. we are using various lenses to analyze challenge of migration, and bring community together for finding solution
