Idea pitch

Co-construction of an information-sharing platform for migrants wishing to settle or transit in Marseille.

The platform will be based on a deeper knowledge of the local context and on the sharing of individuals experiences for the raise of a collective intelligence.
QX1 will also create a frame for the encounter between locals and migrants, involving them in a co-construction process engendering mutual inclusion.

Where will your idea take place?

Why does Europe need your idea?

As a Mediterranean port, Marseille has a rich history of cultural mixing, part of his identity since is foundation myth. Many organizations operate on immigrant settlement needs, but there are no medias centralizing the information a recently-arrived person would need.

We believe that the sharing of migrants multiple experiences will face the helplessness and exclusion generated by a heavy and complex bureaucracy, promoting the sense of belonging and empowerment.

What is your impact?

A great number of interviews and a series of co-construction workshops will lead to the design of a multiform platform (website, social network, public space events, magazines..) fitting the migrants' needs in terms of accessibility to information.
The platform will be both useful for newly-arrived and for people willing to study and describe the recent migratory phenomena in France, Europe and the Mediterranean.

How do you get there?

An investigation of the local context (migrants fluxes and welcoming offer), based on desk research and interviews with organization working on migration;

A first set of interviews with migrants of different profiles (EU / non-EU, refugees, student VISA holders…); allowing us to focus on the exhisting information sharing media, their strenghts and weakeness in Marseille.

Partnerships development with local organizations working with migrants (welcoming, oral history and public memories, legal support);

Partnerships with similar projects in other european cities; a network of hub-project will significantly increase the impact and pertinence of our project;

Workshops for the co-construction of a prototype of platform;

Launch and testing of the prototype

What is your story?

Who are you doing it for?

The knowledge we want to call up is held by a big range of actors, having directly experienced a migration or working in contact with migrants:

● Institutions working on migrants welcoming, pro‐migrants organizations (health, housing, legal support,
literacy/language school…)
● Migrants community organizations and informal groups
● Organizations and researchers working on public memory and remembrance about migrations
● Individuals (old/new migrants, locals)

What makes your idea stand apart?

We aim to work with migrants on a tool based on their needs, of which they could become actor. Our choice to work on oral histories ‐ and not just a simple Q&A website or a social network ‐ is related to the need of recognition of the value and richness of each
migrant experience; its sharing will be at the same time a way to help other people and to recover dignity, empowerment and social inclusion.

QX1 will also offer local communities a frame to act beyond simple humanitarian aid.
