Culture ShoX bring young Europeans and newcomers (asylum seekers) together to create intercultural dialog and friendships through methods of art and culture. Through international and interdisciplinary collaboration between European organisations we will develop and share these new ways of using art and culture as a tool for integration. We will begin with meetings in the partner countries (UK, DK & CY) to secure partnerships with local integrations agencies to secure and develop the project.
Herning in Denmark, Wolverhampton in United Kingdom, Nicosia in Cyprus
A record high number of refugees seek security in Europe in these times. We have a common responsibility to address the challenges of this situation and engage the youth in the process. Obstacles as language barriers and isolation mean that many young newcomers have fewer opportunities to create new relations. Through non-formal and youth-to-youth learning our art activities will promote cultural awareness for all young participants and increased sense of a common Europe united in diversity.
We will promote:
- active citizenship and a positive sense of diversity and unity through methods of art and culture.
- inclusion of young newcomers with fewer opportunities.
- friendships and network between young Europeans and newcomers.
- non- and informal learning to develop the Youngsters – the future of Europe.
- international and interdisciplinary collaboration between European organisations.
- and share methods of using art and culture as tools for promoting integration.
We bring young Europeans and newcomers together through non-formal and youth-to-youth learning in an artistic and cultural framework. Through 3 main activities of 5-21 days, with different artistic point of view, we will create awareness and intercultural dialog between the participants. All activities culminate in a co-created cultural performance, interpreting the issue of diversity and unity in Europe. DK, Swinging Europe: Music; UK, University of Wolverhampton, Faculty of Arts: Choir and song; CY – TheatrEtc: Drama.
From Advocate Europe we apply for help to create a pre-project with kick-off meetings in all partner countries. Each stay will have 2 meetings: 1. The partner organisations develop project details. 2. Meeting and securing collaboration with local integrations agencies.
The project has two participant groups:
1: Young Europeans (age: 15 – 25) with residence in the countries of the partner organizations, who sends and receives young participants.
2: Young newcomers (asylum seekers) with residence in the countries of the receiving partner organizations, who cannot travel outside the country.
The social setting and artistic co-creation will promote understanding and awareness of both challenges and benefits of multicultural Europe among the young participants.
The project will help to build bridges between young newcomers and Europeans with different nationalities and ethnic and cultural backgrounds by inserting the artistic expression as an alternative common language.
Close collaboration and preparation between different types of partner organisations and local integration agencies creates the ideal opportunity to share and develop knowledge about art and culture as integration tools on a European level.
