Idea pitch

What if we followed an etiquette that helps us enjoy the only main course: "talk". Let's sit down and have "talk" for dinner in a safe space that we share as if we all belonged to the same party. Let's experience what we have in common and share perspectives on what we hope for. Let's serve some kind of a better understanding for our situation. What does democracy mean - and how do we establish it in a world of tremendous inequality? Let's overcome poverty for once and forever. Yes, we can!

Where will your idea take place?

Why does Europe need your idea?

The idea of Europe as a Union that we, the people, want! However, the inequality on so many levels within that union is tremendous and we need to sit down and talk with each other, now. Democracy will only survive if we come together and discuss and act in the service of our (local and global) communities. If we talk things through (i.e. what we share and what we fear, especially now that so many refugees are seeking help) that will be a beginning.

What is your impact?

An interactive and community-based format will be implemented in many local communities across Germany. We will evaluate the outcome of that endeavour and give directions on how to use that tool within diverse communities and social settings...

How do you get there?

First: Getting in touch with other NGOs that will host the workshop and event and recruit performers and the audience. Second: Giving a two-days workshop in which the participants will learn about and experiment with the "The Long Table" format (Lois Weaver, ). Third: Hosting a public performance, which is interactive and big fun! Fourth: Evaluating audience questionnaires and learning by the data we get. Sixth: Writing a manual on how to work with "the long table" format in diverse social settings (NGOs, schools, hospitals, universities, refugee camps, etc.)

What is your story?

Who are you doing it for?

The citizens of the EU & friends :)

What makes your idea stand apart?

We spontaneously create flux communities that work with an etiquette that is easy to understand and to follow. We provide a safe space in which we come together as guests, who gather around a long table, maybe the most political furniture in the Western World ever (besides the master bedroom bed) of course!

€ 33800,-

Funding requested from Advocate Europe

€ 36000,-

Total budget

Major expenses

I don't have the plan at hand right now, however, the tuition of the workshop leaders will be 500 EUR/day. The researchers who will evaluate the audience questionnaires will also receive a fix salary.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

Happy to hearing back from you :)
