Short Film Festival taking place outdoor, on a runway. Outdoor cinema as mean of projecting films, airport runway as unconventional place to watch.
Some of the movies have to be about environment, some about flying, some about Iasi or Ruhr Area.
Cinema–the whole experience, not just watching a movie–is a collective thrill. Airports are means of connecting people and places. We combine these to obtain Europeans discovering others by art and then directly meeting each other in their communities.
City of Iasi, Romania. Iasi Airport old runway, primarly, on 3 days timeframe. The duration of Project is 6 months – june, july, august, september, october, november 2016 End of September, beginning of October being the timeframe for setting the 3 days of CinemAIR.
We are addressing the disconnection from the real world and nature, especially of youngsters. The #climatechange shouldn’t be a topic Leo di Caprio speaks about, for awareness, it should be something to be all concerned with. We want to connect people, to connect communities. The common concerns like environment aren’t enough, why not combine ingredients of connectivity? Environment awareness running on unconventional screen, at the airport, to attract youngsters and "device people" 's attention
People interested about CinemAIR, people coming to see the artwork presented during the 3 days of the Short Film Festival, people wanting to know more, afterwords.
What will have changed? Two pieces of the world, at least. Iasi and Ruhr Area at community level. The short films presented to the public have to address at least one of the topics: environment (climate change, air pollution, noise perception, etc.), aviation and Iasi or Ruhr Area, no matter the genre: docs, fiction, animation.
With the positive decision we convince the potential Ruhr area partners mentioned before to become official partners. We will together, as staff, set the date, make some noise, publish the rules and regulations, encourage applications from artists, encourage public participation. CinemAIR, the Film Festival of AIR is a free entrance short film festival, within the 3 day time frame. Iasi Airport is open to community concerns and to public communication – in 2015 being host to a conference about noise in aviation. It is an organization concerned to be part of the community, besides the high need for connectivity assured by it. The unconventional location that the airport is providing, will be prepared accordingly. The last steps are the follow-up activities and preparing the next edition.
Target group: youngsters 8-80 years old, curious about short films, type of film that cannot be seen at cinemas on regular basis.
Stakeholders: Environmental organizations, aviation related orgs, art and film related orgs.
Beneficiaries: Iasi County inhabitants but also Ruhr Area inhabitants – discovering their communities. All of the online and media materials obtained will be freely put at the disposal of Ruhr Area collaborators envisaged to be further disseminated and maybe replicated.

Iasi County has 4 performance institutions (National Theater, Romanian Opera, State Philharmonic, Theater for Children and Youth), 26 museums, 554 libraries and only 2 public cinemas for a population of 300.000 only in the city. Cristian MUNGIU is from Iasi, Corneliu PORUMBOIU is from Vaslui, neighbor city, but here is no film faculty or modern cinema hall where people can enjoy films and especially short film artwork.
